One Step Ahead

Because of baby AJ's sickness, we have been staying close to home and entertaining ourselves in the house. AJ's Dad and I have been trying to "encourage" AJ to walk. First, we have been helping her to stand on her own. She will stand for about 10 seconds . . . giggling and smiling, full of pride and excitement. Then, you try to get her to stand again and she crumbles to the floor with "jelly legs," we call them.

Yesterday, we were practicing standing. AJ was standing by herself for a few seconds and she suddenly got a little nervous. She was within a step of the bookcase, so she took one tiny step forward toward the bookcase to catch hold. HER FIRST STEP! She is definitely not walking, but one little step will certainly lead to many big steps.

Yay! Congrats to AJ! She's keeping up the family tradition of early walking!

Although, there's an old adage about motherhood. When your first-born learns to stand, and then walk...you encourage and cheer them on. When your second-born learns to stand...you push them back down on their bottoms and hope they didn't get any ideas about that walking nonsense.
